FINDING MEANING

The Internet is obsessed with content. Do you want to start an online business? You better make some content. Have you seen Jill's content? She's got the best content. Oh and don't forget to make consistent content. I'm sick and tired of clickbait, hollow posts, reverse engineered titles & catchy thumbnails. In an attempt to get the most clicks, likes & views we've sold ourselves short and left one important ingredient out. I'm interested in creating meaningful content.

But who the hell am I anyway? Good question. My name's Matt D'Avella and I'm the director behind the Netflix film Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things. Back in 2014 I grabbed my camera and joined two friends to travel around the country and talk with people who called themselves minimalists. We had no expectations, no corporate interests or brands dictating the direction. We only had a story we were passionate to tell.

And let me tell you... it was fucking hard. I stopped taking paid gigs, invested fifteen thousand dollars and put my head down for 12 hours a day to do the work. It was thrilling. I loved it. I also hated it. At times I thought we'd never finish the film. It was the most difficult thing I've ever done but it was a story I had to tell.

And through all of that I'm going to do it again. Because life isn't about arriving. It's about continually growing, challenging yourself and taking the lesson's you learned to make the next one that much better.

It's also about contributing and giving back. That's why I'm here. I want to help you tell your story and conquer the demons that await any huge challenge. I create lots of short videos for YouTube & Instagram to give you weekly hits of inspiration. I also make long form (meaningful) content that can only be found on this site.

And I have a podcast. In the podcast I've been fortunate enough to sit down with some of the hardest working creators on the planet to talk about what they've learned.

WATCH MY NEW DOCUMENTARY

I’ve always been fascinated with change. Why are some people able to turn their lives around but others get stuck? Back in 2014 we packed our bags, grabbed a camera and set off across the country to document the growing minimalism movement. I learned that many of the people we spoke to had struggled early on. They'd set off to develop a new health eating habit or early morning routine and fall off the wagon a couple days later. So how did they do it? How did they turn their lives around?

The lesson’s I learned from these interviews inspired me to dig deeper and crack the code of habit change. The 20 minute documentary UNSTUCK: The Five Steps to Change is the result of that hard work. I unpack & detail the specific steps, tools and strategies these individuals used to make radical changes in their lives. This film is exclusively for newsletter subscribers.
